Lex Zhao is a Managing Partner at One Way Ventures where he identifies investment opportunities, leads due diligence, and works with entrepreneurs to help build large, enduring companies. Lex currently works with companies such as Chipper Cash, Burq, Billdr, Quantivly, Axle, Machinery Partner, and Tabs, among others.

His investment outlook has been shaped by his experience growing up in the early 90s in China, where his grandparents didn't have running water, to working at Bridgewater Associates, the largest hedge fund in the world. These experiences have instilled in him the knowledge that when human capital is leveraged with technological innovation, the pace of change can be astounding.

Prior to One Way Ventures, Lex led the operations team at Vestwell, when it was a seed stage venture-backed fintech startup. He earned his MBA with honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he was an Associate at Moderne Ventures and took part in the New Venture Challenge startup accelerator. Lex started his career at Bridgewater Associates and NERA Economic Consulting. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Cornell University where he earned his B.A. in Economics with distinction. He has also passed all three levels of the CFA Program.
